2012 ADGA National Show

Hello Friends and Followers!

The moment we’ve been waiting for has finally come and gone! The 2012 ADGA National Show in Loveland, CO was a great success. My crew and I worked around the clock in order to fully capture the event. We met hundreds of wonderful people and thousands of delightful goats. All in all, I’d say it went really well!

There were moments of stress and drama, like a monumental thunder and lightning storm that flooded three tents of goat pens and temporarily displaced hundreds of goats just hours after vet check. But the goat community banded together to help save both friend and foe from the downpour.

There were also countless moments of triumph. Redwood Hill, a farm we’ve followed from the beginning, had three big wins and dozens of good placings. Redwood Herd Manager Trinity Smith won Overall Grand Champion Nubian with her mother Karen Smith’s Nubian doe of Wingwood Farm. Redwood also won Overall Grand Champion Alpine and Overall Grand Champion Saanen. When it came time to sell one of their Alpine does in the Colorama Sale, they raised over $3,700. Sir Echo’s Sandy Van Echo (a Kickstarter backer) won Overall Reserve Champion Oberhasli. Congratulations to everyone at the 2012 ADGA National Show! It will go down in the books as one of the largest shows in recent history. The competition was steep but everyone did a great job preparing their goats for the ring.

Goat Show Doc had anywhere between 3 and 7 cameras running at any given time, and even though we now have hundreds of hours of footage to sort through, I am extremely happy with what we got. We also had a very successful booth (blog post to come) that included information on local tourist activities and a “yearbook” with still photos from the shoot. We had a coin race (see results at http://goatshowdoc.com/2012/07/15/coin-race-results/) and sold T-shirts to raise money. We still have a lot of extra T-shirts ($20 plus shipping). If you’re interested please contact me! Finally we had a “Name the Documentary” contest. Results are available for voting at http://goatshowdoc.com/2012/07/014/name-the-documentary/.   My personal favorites are “Goat People,” “Hooves” and “No Goats No Glory” … but we won’t decide until the public has voiced their opinion and until the movie is complete!

Thank you to everyone who made our National Goat Show experience so great! The hours were long and the shoot was physically demanding on all of us, but I wouldn’t change a thing! It was sad to say goodbye to so many old friends and so many new ones, but I know I will see you all in 2013 at the special advanced screening of the yet-to-be-titled Goat Show Doc.

Promote the Goat T-Shirts!

Our PROMOTE THE GOAT T-Shirts are in!  Our crew ordered a test batch of shirts to see if we liked them, and they’re great!

Now I need your opinions: Would you rather have white t-shirts that you can wear in the show ring, or colored t-shirts like the ones above (not necessarily purple and green…)?  We were planning on ordering white t-shirts to sell at the National Show, but if you’d rather have colored shirts, we may reconsider!

Leave your feedback in the comments!

IMPORTANT ANNOUCEMENTS!!

Hello Everyone!  Just a few important reminders:

1) The Deadline for 2012 ADGA National Show Entries is SUNDAY!!!  That’s only 3 days away!!!

2) We still need your help in the fundraising department!  www.indiegogo.com/goatshowdoc

3) If you are travelling to National’s and have a camera / camcorder / video device of some sort, we would love for you to document your trip!!! Pictures of your goats in the trailer, at rest stops, in front of National landmarks- anything!  Be creative!  Your footage may end up in the documentary!  We are also looking for cross-country travelers to interview about the experience driving cross country with their goats.

Thank you!  I can’t believe National’s is so soon!!!

GoatShowDoc Timelapse – LA to San Fran

We at GoatShowDoc love three things: Goats, timelapses, and GoPros.  For those of you who have never heard of a GoPro before, it is a small HD camera that is rugged and waterproof, super easy to use and very popular with sports enthusiasts.  You can mount it on a helmet, a surfboard, a car, a goat – you name it!  On our way to San Francisco to interview Jennifer & Scott Bice and Jack & Pinky Hawes, we mounted a GoPro Hero2 and a Nikon D5000 to our dashboard. Both took pictures every 5 seconds so we could make this AWESOME timelapse of our trip.

Kudos to Trevor for putting this video together:

If you have a short attention span for timelapses, skip ahead to about minute 1:25.  Our night arrival in San Francisco is pretty awesome looking.  Also, if you like the music, check out Givers, one of Trevor and my favorite bands.  The song is called “Saw You First.”

If you like what you see, please consider donating to our continued fundraising campaign: www.indiegogo.com/goatshowdoc.  We’re $13,000 into our $35,000 goal.  All of your money goes directly to the production of this film, including the recent purchase of two additional GoPros, so we can get tons of great timelapses of activity at the National Show.  Thank you so much for your continued support.

Enjoy!

The GoatShowDoc Crew :)

Hello Fence Post Readers!

Hello Fence Post readers!

Welcome to Goat Show Doc’s website!  We’re glad you’re here.  Take a look at the links on the right for specific information about who we are, who are donors are and how you can get involved.  Scroll down for past entries.  There’s a little bit of everything- information on our project, pictures and videos of our progress, links to goat news.  Enjoy!

Thank you for stopping by!  Feel free to comment and share your thoughts and opinions.

Goat Show Doc in the news

Hello Friends, Family, Fans & Followers!

Great news!  GoatShowDoc will be featured in The Fence Post (a Colorado & Nebraska agricultural newspaper) this coming Monday.  Keep your eyes peeled, Coloradoans and Nebraskans!  I’ll share the online link with everyone when it is available.  Thank you toThe Fence Post for your interest in featuring us!

Please help us spread our fundraising website: indiegogo.com/goatshowdoc  Just because we met our Kickstarter goal doesn’t mean we don’t have thousands to go!  Thanks for your support.

The Fundraising Continues!

Great news!  Just because Kickstarter ended doesn’t mean we’re going to stop fundraising!  Thank you to our 171 Kickstarter donors who contributed a total of $12,455.

Today, I launched a new fundraising site with IndieGoGo: http://www.indiegogo.com/goatshowdoc

This fundraising campaign differs from Kickstarter in a few ways: 1) the timeline is MUCH longer. We can raise funds on IndieGoGo for up to 120 days!  This way people can donate online (via credit card) until September 10th or indefinitely via check.  2) Unlike Kickstarter, we get to keep all of the money regardless of whether we reach our goal.

However, just like Kickstarter (which had a listed goal of $12,000), reaching our IndieGoGo goal STILL does not mean we are fully funded.  We will not be fully funded until we reach the $35,000 mark.  It may seem like a long way away, but I’m positive that if we find the right people and the right grants and drum up a ton of interest that we can make our ultimate goal!

Even if you donated to Kickstarter, would you consider sharing our IndieGoGo link with your friends, family and co-workers?  We need all the help we can get to reach our goal and you all have done an amazing job so far.

Let’s keep up the good work and reach $35,000!

Thank you all so much!
